Flute Day Photos, May 11-12, 2001

Following are photos taken at the FSK Flute Day with John Barcellona, held at Campbellsville University.  If you have an FSK event photo worthy of inclusion, please contact the webmaster.

 


Dr. J. Robert Gaddis, Dean of the School of Music at
Campbellsville University, welcomes everyone on Friday afternoon.

 


Dr. Lisa McArthur, President of the Flute Society of Kentucky,
welcomes everyone and begins the general meeting of the
FSK on Friday afternoon.

 


Attendees of the 2001 Kentucky Flute Festival at the panel discussion,
"Colleges and Careers" on Friday afternoon.  The panel included
high school and college teachers, as well as members of the
music industry.

Dr. Barcellona works with Christina Milby (now Christina Bishop)
in the Saturday masterclass.  Christina was the winner of the
Undergraduate Level of the Solo Competition.

 


Lesley-Anne Bandy performed for Dr. Barcellona during the
Saturday masterclass.

 


Dr. Barcellona works with Meghan Johnson during the
Friday afternoon masterclass.

 


Dr. Barcellona works with Erin Cutler during the Friday
afternoon masterclass.

 


Arlyn Woodall volunteered to perform in the Friday afternoon
masterclass with Dr. Barcellona.  Arlyn was selected as the
First Place winner in the Junior High Level of the 
Solo Competition.

 


Maria Johnson performed for Dr. Barcellona during the
Saturday morning masterclass.

 


Dr. Barcellona works with Cathy Taylor during the Saturday
morning masterclass.  Cathy placed Second in the Junior
High Level of the Solo Competition.

 


Dr. Barcellona received a special certificate at the final concert
on Saturday evening.

Everyone performed My Old Kentucky Home at the end of
Saturday's concert!

 


This is the 8/9/10 Flute Choir directed by Ms. Laura Finley
and Mrs. Dawn Pendley at the Final Concert on Saturday evening.

 


Jayne Copland directed the Kentucky Honor Flute Choir at
the Final Concert.  This is a special group selected by
cassette audition.  The ensemble rehearsed before and during
the Flute Festival.

 


The Sixth Grade Flute Choir was directed by Ms. Susan
Baumgardner.  The ensemble performed at the final concert
on Saturday evening.

 


Mrs. Penny Akers receives a certificate in appreciation for her
work with the Sixth Grade Flute Choir.

 


Dr. Gerardo Discepolo presents a seminar on flute-making
and the history of the flute during Saturday afternoon session.  Dr. 
Discepolo is the General Manager of Emerson Flutes, a division of Selmer.

 


Jayne Copland (left) and Lisa McArthur, as we bid a fond
farewell to Jayne and thank her for all that she has done for
the Flute Society of Kentucky.  (Jayne is moving to Colorado,
but may be spotted at the National Flute Convention.  She'll
be the one wearing the FSK T-shirt!)

 


Christina Milby (Bishop) and Jenny Shelton had a good time
at the Festival!  They participated in the 11/12/College
Flute Choir, directed by Mr. Gordon Cole.

 


Dr. Barcellona got a few minutes between sessions to chat with
FSK members.  He is talking with Dr. Stephanie Rea, who
directed the Seventh Grade Flute Choir, and was also the
winner of the Young Artist Level of the Solo Competition.

Many students from Taylor County Schools and Marion
County Schools attended the 2001 Kentucky Flute Festival!

 


Mr. Todd Farmer is the Band Director at Taylor County High
School and Middle School, as well as the Treasurer and a 
member of the Board of Directors of the Flute Society of Kentucky.
Mr. Farmer is showing some of his students a wooden flute
brought by Robert Johnson of Flute Specialists, Inc.
