Gary Schocker is indeed one of the finest flutists performing today. But he is also a noted pianist and a prolific composer, having written musicals, award-winning works for the clarinet and for the flute, and a wide variety of other material.
His poetic and virtuosic flute playing has brought him great critical acclaim. Performances feature Schocker's work as a recitalist and concerto soloist, and in duo with guitarist Jason Vieaux. He also frequently performs programs of music for unaccompanied flute. He offers both standard works and new works, including his own concertos with orchestra (Green Places, Airborne, and Regrets and Resolutions).
Schocker has performed with such orchestras as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony, the West German Sinfonia and I Solisti Italiani. He has collaborated with many artists on stage, including Pinchas Zuckerman, Michael Tilson Thomas, Earl Wild, Jessye Norman, Julius Baker, James Levine, James Galway, Bruno Canino, Oscar Shumsky, Eduardo Fernandez, Jean-Philippe Collard, and the Chamber Music of Lincoln Center.
