The Flute Society of Kentucky

2004 Kentucky Flute Festival
and Solo Competitions

featuring guest artist Gary Schocker

Campbellsville University, Campbellsville, Kentucky
January 16-17, 2004

REQUIRED PIECES

All Recording Round material is unaccompanied.  Use any edition unless specified.  Recording Round deadline is November 5, 2003.  Good luck!!

Middle School Competition (grades 6-8)

  • Recording Round:  Air with Variations by Charles DeLaney, "Theme and Variation II" only; published by Southern Music Company.

  • Final Round:  Andalouse by Emile Pessard, published in "Concert and Contest Collection" by Rubank/Hal Leonard

High School Competition (grades 9-12)

  • Recording Round:  Tango-Etude No. 1 by Astor Piazzolla

  • Final Round:  Concertino by Cecile Chaminade

Collegiate Artist Competition (undergraduates only)

  • Recording Round:  Reflections by Katherine Hoover; published by Papagena Press

  • Final Round:  Density 21.5 by Edgard Varese, and Sonata by Francis Poulenc

Young Artist Competition (open to any flutist)

  • Recording Round:  Sonata for Flute Solo, Op. 24 by John LaMontaine

  • Final Round:  Sonata by Sergei Prokofiev, and Mei by Kazuo Fukushima

Up to three finalists in each category will be selected to compete on January 16, 2004.  First Prize winners in each category will perform in recital at the festival.  Cash prizes will be awarded in each category.  Previous First Prize winners are ineligible to compete in the same category.
