About the 2006 Kentucky Flute Festival

All recording-round material is unaccompanied. Use any edition unless specified. Recording-round postmark deadline is November 1, 2005 and must be received by November 5, 2005. 

Junior Soloist Competition (up to Grade 8)

  • Recording Round:  Wedding Variations by Kristen Stoner (click on link to access Acrobat file for free printing).  If it is not already on your computer, you will need to download (free of charge) Acrobat Reader in order to be able to access the music.

  • Final Round:  As She Was by Catherine McMichael

High School Soloist Competition (Grades 9 - 12)

  • Recording Round: Fantasia by Charles Smith published by Southern Music. Erratum:  the eighth note on beat four of measure eight should be a second-space A (the A above middle C).  Also, on the third page of the music (published page four), third measure, the last note is a G-natural.

  • Final Round:  (1) D'un Matin de Printemps by Lili Boulanger, (2) Sonata in G Major by G.F. Handel (no repeats)

Collegiate Artist Competition (Undergraduates only)

  • Recording Round:  Flute Forest by Gary Schocker

  • Final Round:  (1) Movin' On by Rhonda Larson, (2) Sonata in E Minor by J.S. Bach (no repeats)

Young Artist Competition (age 30 or younger as of January 15, 2006 )

  • Recording Round:  Sonata in A Minor for flute alone by C.P.E. Bach (no repeats)

  • Final Round:  (1) Concerto for Flute and Orchestra by Eric Ewazen, (2) Aubade by Libby Larsen

Up to three finalists in each category will be selected to compete on January 13, 2006.  At the judges’ discretion, the First Prize winner in each category will perform at the festival.  Previous First Prize winners are ineligible to compete in the same category.
