About the 2008 Kentucky Flute Festival Competitions

Recording Round postmark deadline is November 1, 2007.
Application and further information will be posted by July 1, 2007.
(All Recording Round material is unaccompanied.)
 

Junior Soloist Competition (up to Grade 8)

Recording Round: Azica's Song, composed by Dr. Lisa McArthur.  You will need Acrobat Reader to open the file.  It's a free download, available at this link Acrobat Reader.

Final Round:  Menuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits by Christoph Gluck, found in Master Solos by Gary Sigurdson, edited by Linda Rutherford, published by Hal Leonard with CD recording of all solos in the book.

High School Soloist (Grades 9-12)

Recording  Round: (1) Un Joueur de flute berce les ruines (A Flutist Lullabies the Ruins) by Francis Poulenc, and, (2) "Bouree Anglaise" from Partita in A minor by J. S. Bach (any edition).

Final Round: Cecile Chaminade's Concertino (any edition).

Collegiate Artist (Undergraduates only)

Recording  Round: Hymn of Pan by Charles DeLaney.

Final Round: (1) a Telemann fantasie of the entrant's choice, and, (2) Autumn Reflections by Jennifer Higdon.

Young Artist (Age 30 or younger as of January 13, 2008)

Recording  Round: Fantasy for solo flute by Malcolm Arnold.

Final Round: (1) Moments by Robert Muczynski, and, (2) Four Pooh Stories by Maria Grenfell.


Up to three finalists in each category will be selected to compete on TBA.  At the judges' discretion, the First Prize winner in each category will perform at the festival.  Previous First Prize winners are ineligible to compete in the same category.
